Aaron Fuller quick to shake off rust after five-month layoff

IT didn’t not look like it but returning NLEX import Aaron Fuller hadn’t played competitive basketball in five months.

Fuller returned to the PBA with a bang as he finished with 35 points, 21 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Road Warriors to a 116-104 win over Columbian Dyip on Friday in the PBA Governors Cup.

“Those are typical Aaron numbers – not the scoring but the rebounding numbers,” said stand-in NLEX coach Jojo Lastimosa. “Aaron hasn’t played in five months, he’s rusty but he’s gonna be fresh. I’m the most surprised guy that he was able to last 42 minutes.

“Hats off to Aaron and hats off to a lot of guys tonight,” he added.

Prior to coming over, Fuller last played in the Total League in Luxemberg and has since waited for a chance to get back to the Philippines.

Keeping himself in shape during the wait paid off for the 28 year old forward.

“The last league I played in ended in March. I was just waiting around to come back here. For the meantime I was just working out at home and thankfully I wasn’t too out of shape out there and hopefully it only gets better than here,” said Fuller.

“I think I did pretty good but I was pretty winded in the end, hopefully in the next game I have better conditioning. It looks like it (didn’t miss a step) but I was winded out there. So hopefully I keep getting better.”
