All’s not well for Almazan, RoS as big man goes ‘missing in action’ again

STA. ROSA – Big man Raymund Almazan missed a second straight game for Rain or Shine in the PBA Governors Cup, bolstering speculation that all is not well with him and the team that selected him third overall in the 2013 rookie draft.

The 6-foot-8 national team member was a no-show at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Arena here as the Elasto Painters were dealt their fourth straight loss by the rising Blackwater Elite, 99-93, on Sunday.

Almazan also didn’t see action in the team’s 106-89 loss to Alaska last Wednesday owing to what coach Caloy Garcia said was an ‘emergency’ involving his family.

But following the loss to the Elite, Garcia appeared to be singing a different tune.

“Hindi ko pa siya nakakausap for the last three days, and we really don’t know where he is right now,” said Garcia.

The 29-year-old Almazan hasn’t been attending team practices either, and hasn’t sent any word to management about his status.

“As I’ve said, I haven’t talked to him, even management hasn’t got hold of him, we don’t know what’s going on with him,” added Garcia.

“Walang nakakausap sa kanya, so MIA (Missing In Action).”

Persons close to Almazan however, told SPIN.ph he has some ‘issues with his family and the Rain or Shine team,’ although they refused to elaborate on the matter.

But the absence of Almazan is definitely a big loss for the Elasto Painters, according to Garcia.

“He’s our tallest player, we missed his rebounding, and siyempre yung depensa niya ang importante,” said the Rain or Shine coach

“But we have to do without him and work with what we have.”
