Alolino nears return as injured Phoenix players on way to recovery

GELO Alolino is thrilled to return to the court after attending his first full practice with Phoenix on Friday morning.

Alolino is closing in on getting back into action as the third-year playmaker has fully healed from the removal of bone spurs in his right ankle. He missed two and a half months due to the operation.

“First full practice pero since Monday, gradual practice, non-contact. Ngayon, nakasabay na ako full practice,” said the former National University standout.

Alolino said he is feeling better following the operation as he doesn’t feel any pain in his foot.

“May time na na-aggravate ko siya, na-sprain ako. Hindi ko na kaya tiisin ‘yung sakit. Parang nakatusok talaga. Nag-decide na kami ng physical therapist at ni coach na pa-opera ko na. Mas malaking difference (after the operation),” Alolino said.

In his previous full conference, Alolino was steady, averaging 8.83 points, 2.33 rebounds, and 1.42 assists in the Philippine Cup. He also shot 45 percent from the field and had 13 threes, the fourth-best with the Fuel Masters.

Phoenix coach Louie Alas said Alolino isn’t just the only player who is set to return from injury with players such as Doug Kramer and Rey Guevarra on their way to recovery from their operation to remove bone spurs in their ankle and knee respectively.

Willie Wilson, meanwhile, has recovered from his shoulder and hamstring injuries.

“Marami akong injuries pero nagheal na sila. Si Gelo makakabalik na… Siguro mga three more games, kumpleto na kami,” said Alas.

Alolino said he will use the coming days before their match against Meralco to further get his groove back.

“As much as possible, double time ako. After practice, nagpupunta pa ako ng workout at therapy para alagaan ‘yung katawan ko. Hindi ko pa masabi (kung palalaruin ako ni coach), depende pa kay coach. Titignan pa niya siguro kung makakasabay ako. Hopefully, makalaro na ako para ma-feel ko na. Nakaka-miss na rin maglaro,” Alolino said.
