Back in full fitness, Mac Belo finally proving his worth at Blackwater

WHILE Henry Walker and Paul Zamar made most of the noise in Blackwater’s big win over Barangay Ginebra, Mac Belo is quietly making his mark in the Elite’s stellar start to the PBA Governors’ Cup.

Belo was both efficient and effective in Blackwater’s 124-118 overtime win over Ginebra, finishing with 14 points and making all the right plays as the Elite improved to 4-0 to take the unfamiliar role of conference leader.

Inserted into the game in overtime after Poy Erram picked up his fifth foul, the Midsayap, Cotabato native hit a big three-pointer to give Blackwater a 119-113 cushion.

“Kung titignan mo ‘yung adjustment nung overtime, linabas ko si Poy, siya ‘yung pinasok ko. Nag-adjust din sila (Ginebra),” said Blackwater coach Bong Ramos of the former Far Eastern University star.

The 25-year old was the top pick of the 2016 special draft but has yet to fulfill expectations as a pro, struggling to shine at Blackwater while dealing with an assortment of injuries.

But he is now fully healthy and his game is on the rise. The 6-3 forward is averaging 8.75 points per game this conference and has stepped up in the last two games. Against NorthPort, Belo had 13 points in the 113-111 win.

Like every one else, Ramos hopes Belo is back in top form – for good.

“Hopefully, nandiyan na si Mac talaga,” said Ramos.
