Blakely caps off comeback as TNT stuns NorthPort to stretch streak

MARQUS Blakely completed TNT’s comeback from 23 points down to beat NorthPort, 104-102, on Sunday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Blakely converted a layup with 6.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter to break a 102-102 tie as the KaTropa picked up their fourth win in eight outings.

The KaTropa have won their third straight game, while sending the winless Batang Pier to their sixth loss of the conference.

Terrence Romeo also helped TNT’s come-from-behind win, finishing with 25 points, eight assists, and three steals. He also shot 6-of-9 from three-point range. Blakely, meanwhile, had 23 points and 11 boards for the KaTropa.

“Wala namang sikreto. It’s by working hard lang. Ang importante, ma-sustain ng team ‘yung energy namin all throughout the game,” said TNT coach Bong Ravena.

TNT trailed, 60-37, before erecting that big comeback against NorthPort, which was still leading by 16 points at the end of the fourth.

The KaTropa hit key shots in the fourth with Romeo burying a three-pointer to tie the game at 93 with 3:01 left in the game. A lay-up Blakely handed TNT a 102-98 lead.

TNT also had anxious moments before Blakely’s heroics. Sean Anthony was fouled taking a three-point shot that led to Paolo Taha scoring a tip-in to tie the game at 102. It was not enough for NorthPort to send the game into overtime.

Rashad Woods had 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Stanley Pringle added 18 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. Moala Tautuaa and Jonathan Grey also had big games for NorthPort, scoring 18 points apiece.

The scores:

TNT 104 – Romeo 25, Blakely 23, Rosario 12, Cruz 11, Pogoy 10. Trollano 7, Garcia 6, Reyes 5, Williams 3, Carey 2.

NorthPort 102 – Woods 19, Pringle 18, Tautuaa 18, Grey 18, Anthony 15, Javelona 9, Taha 4, Guinto 1, Elorde 0, Fortuna 0, Espinas 0, Arana 0.
