Cabagnot, Lassiter return, but Arwind Santos plays hurt in SMB loss

INJURY woes continue to hound San Miguel with Arwind Santos playing hurt on Sunday due to an ankle injury.

San Miguel coach Leo Austria bared Santos is still hobbled by the ankle sprain he sustained after a bad landing against Ginebra last week.

Santos finished the game with eight points but shot 3-of-10 from the field in San Miguel’s 109-108 loss to Magnolia, but he earned praises from Austria for playing hurt.

“Actually natutuwa ako kay Arwind, naglaro siya dahil he never practiced na full practice every day dahil sa bad landing niya last game. Ganda pa ng nilaro niya nung last few games niya kaya lang hindi niya ma-sustain,” said Austria.

Austria said he only worked on his shooting during the past few days of practice, and was not involved in physical activity. The lack of conditioning showed in the last few minutes of the game, according to Austria.

“Ginagawa lang niya, shooting sa practice. Kahapon, nagpunta siya sa doctor, nagpa-check, nakakuha siya ng clearance. Ang problema lang, ‘yung kanyang endurance kasi hindi niya ma-sustain. But he promised me na next game, he will be okay,” Santos said.

Santos’ injury added to the woes of the Beermen in terms of health this conference with San Miguel still missing June Mar Fajardo due to a shin injury. Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter also had their health issues recently but they have recovered from the illnesses they suffered.

Lassiter had 14 points in his return, but Cabagnot only scored four points in the loss to Magnolia.

“Obvious naman he (Alex) is not in his usual game. But I’m confident na ‘yung two guys na ‘to, magiistep up sa next game namin,” Austria said.
