Cone on testy finals: ‘We’re sister teams but we aren’t friendly’

BARANGAY Ginebra coach Tim Cone said he expects the series to be even more chippy following tension that arose late in the fourth quarter of Game Two of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Game Two saw San Miguel cruise to a 134-109 win, but the match was marred by the ejections of two Beermen – Arwind Santos being sent off for a flagrant foul 2 on Scottie Thompson and Chris Ross for two technical fouls.

Cone said he expects emotions to run high throughout the series with both teams determined to win the Commissioner’s Cup crown. San Miguel has won three of the last four crowns with Ginebra ligting the Governors’ Cup last year.

“It certainly got chippy,” said Cone. “I think you’re going to see that the whole series. It’s funny. We are sister teams but we are not friendly. We are not friendly with them at all.”

Cone acknowledged that in order for the Kings to gain a lot of success in the league, they certainly had to go through the Beermen in this finals series.

“We see them as the mountain to be conquered, and they see us as a threat to their throne, as a main threat to their throne so there is no love lost between the two teams,” said Cone. “Hopefully, we achieve the same high level of results.

“Right now, their results are higher than ours. You’ll continue to see that series as chippy. I don’t think it’s going to be lay down for the other team. It’s going to come hard.
