Jayson Castro out two more weeks after surgery to remove bone spurs

TNT Katropa will have to make do without top gun Jayson Castro for the next two weeks after the cat-quick guard underwent procedure to remove bone spurs from his right foot.

Castro already missed the team’s 110-104 win over Rain or Shine on Saturday in Iloilo after going through the procedure on Wednesday of last week.

He won’t still be around when the Katropa tangle with the NorthPort Batang Pier on Sunday, but would be available by Oct. 20 when the team battles San Miguel Beer in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

“Two weeks ang scheduled rest na binigay sa kanya ng doctors. Out-patient lang naman siya as the procedure was over after more than an hour,” said TnT team manager Virgil Villavicencio during the PSA Golf Cup on Tuesday at the Manila Southwoods.

Villavicencio said Castro decided to push through with the bone spurs removal rather than further delaying it.

“Pag di pa kasi naoperahan lalo lang tatagal,” said the TnT official.

“So might as well do it now.”

While the absence of Castro left the Katropa without their leading scorer, the team’s new system under new coach Bong Ravena and consultant Mark Dickel somehow offset that disadvantage.

Castro still managed to practice with the team under Ravena and Dickel prior to his operation.

“Yung sistema namin kasi ngayon ikot ng ikot ang bola. So somehow kahit wala muna si Jayson, napupunan pa rin yung pagkawala niya sa opensa,” said Villavicencio.
