Jayson Castro regains form as TNT nips Columbian to snap three-game skid

TNT seemingly found a band-aid solution to its dwindling hopes in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup, slipping past Columbian, 118-114 in overtime, to snap its three-game losing run on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jayson Castro returned to his heroic self for the KaTropa, pumping 25 points, six rebounds, and seven rebounds as he alleviated his side’s woes to improve to 2-4.

The Kapampangan dribbler drilled the go-ahead triple in extra time, tipped the ball off of Akeem Wright in the last 10.5 seconds, and drained the game-sealing technical free throw that gave TNT some semblance of good news through these trying times.

Trotting an all-Filipino crew in the clutch, Castro’s trey gave the KaTropa the 115-112 lead with 2:22 remaining in the extra period, before Terrence Romeo got freed from Rashawn McCarthy’s defense and made the game a 117-114 lead in the final 57.2 seconds.

Russel Escoto missed the potential game-tying triple before the two teams traded turnovers. Escoto, though, was whistled with a technical foul for delay of game, setting the stage for Castro to end the game for good.
