No let-up for Balkman after two SMB romps: ‘I want this real bad’

AFTER two straight blowout victories, Renaldo Balkman insisted the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals is far from over, and San Miguel still has work to do in order to put away Barangay Ginebra.

Balkman had 28 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three blocks in the Beermen’s 132-94 victory over the Kings in Game Three that gave them a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.

It was the second straight lopsided win for San Miguel coming on the heels of a 134-109 loss in Game Two.

For Balkman though, the Beermen still have to earn the title despite winning by an average margin of 31.5 points.

“No,” said Balkman, when asked if he can smell the championship already. “I don’t want to sound arrogant. Will take it one game at a time.”

Balkman had a huge third quarter when he scored 13 points, as San Miguel outscored Ginebra, 39-21, in the third quarter. He also spearheaded a hot start by the Beermen in the third when they zoomed to a 62-51 lead in the period.

Balkman said he is determined to win the Commissioner’s Cup crown as a fitting follow-up to his Asean Basketball League (ABL) crown with San Miguel Alab Pilipinas last May.

“I want it. I want it real bad. I want the championship. This one’s what I want. I won in the ABL. I’m going to tell you guys, this will mean something to me. By any means necessary, try to get this W,” said Balkman.

Balkman, however, said the Beermen have a great chance at winning the crown if they continue to play with the same intensity in the next matches as in Games Two and Three.

“As we keep on moving forward, we keep playing like that, I’m going to get what I want. But at the same time, it’s one game at a time. You can’t go out there and say, the next 10 plays. No. It’s one game at a time and continue to be professional,” said Balkman.
