No RoS plan to trade Almazan amid interest from at least six teams

IF this is the stock market, the value of Raymond Almazan is definitely on a record high.

At least half of the PBA members teams have expressed interest in getting the services of the troubled big man the moment news leaked out he has gone ‘Missing In Action’ for his mother ballclub Rain or Shine.

SPIN.ph learned from sources that six teams will jump at the chance to get the big man in a trade. But wary that they might be charged with tampering, all of them would rather discuss acquiring the 6-foot-8 center in private.

Almazan still has a year left in his contract with the Elasto Painters.

“Why not?” said one one-high ranking official when asked if the team is eager to have the former NCAA MVP from Letran on board.

“Definitely, he’s a big asset,” said another executive, whose team is very much in the running for a playoff berth in the ongoing Governors Cup. “Pero depende ‘yon sa hihingin (sa trade).”

Although aware of Almazan’s market value at the moment, Rain or Shine management has put its foot down saying it has no plan on trading the player it selected third overall during the 2013 rookie draft.

Not at the moment.

“Not interested,” was the curt reply of Raymund Yu, who, along with Terry Que, co-owns the Rain or Shine franchise.

Yu admitted management hasn’t heard from Almazan since he failed to show up for the Elasto Painters’ game against Alaska last week.

The team also hasn’t decided yet on whether it will sanction the national team player like what Alaska did to star forward Calvin Abueva when he also went ‘AWOL’ with the Aces prior to being traded.

“We will listen first to what he has to say,” said Yu.

Coach Caloy Garcia bared Almazan’s continuous no-show for the team – even in practice – after not suiting up for the Elasto Painters for the second straight time against Blackwater Elite in Sta. Rosa, Laguna last Sunday.

Rain or Shine remains winless in four outings, two of them without Almazan, also a former NCAA Defensive Player of the Year.

“I haven’t talked to him, even management hasn’t got hold of him. We don’t know what’s going on with him,” said Garcia, whose love-hate relationship with Almazan dating back to their days with Letran has been an open book.

“Walang nakakausap sa kanya, so MIA (Missing In Action).”

But Yu insisted there’s nothing wrong in the relationship between Almazan and the team, more so between him and Garcia.

“Family (matter),” he stressed about what seems to be bugging the five-year pro.
