Racela keeps mum as he awaits next assignment from MVP group

NASH Racela is sitting tight pending orders of MVP group management on where his next stop would be after guiding TNT to an uncharacteristic disappointing start to its PBA Governors’ Cup campaign.

The TNT coach has been on “indefinite leave” since the KaTrapa dropped to a 1-4 win-loss record – the worst start in franchise history since the 1999 Commissioner’s Cup, then under the Mobiline banner, according to chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

The KaTropa tasked assistant coach Eric Gonzales to take over temporarily and the longtime Racela associate led the KaTropa to a 118-114 win over the Columbian Dyip to end a three-game losing slump.

The KaTropa then tapped the services of Australia and New Zealand league coach Mark Dickel as consultant to assist Gonzales in the resumption of their campaign.

Racela politely declined to comment on the KaTropa situation, the team’s current coaching staff, and the players as he awaits orders from top brass.

“Just waiting for next assignment. Nothing clear pa from management,” Racela told SPIN.ph on Friday.

The 46-year-old coach is also using this sabbatical to work on his coaching skills as well as spend more time with his family.

“Meantime, will just take advantage of time with family and improve coaching knowledge,” the father of two daughters said.

“Also improve (golf) handicap,” he ended.
