Red-hot-Magnolia catches Ginebra at top after rout of Columbian

MAGNOLIA gained a share of the lead in the PBA Governors’ Cup after a 113-95 win over Columbian on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Hotshots started the game with eight straight points and never trailed, opening leads as big as 28 points along the way.

With its third successive win, Magnolia caught Barangay Ginebra at the top of the standings with a 5-1 win-loss record.

“This is a very important game for us,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero. “Kung ano man ‘yung mindset namin sa San Miguel and Rain or Shine, we have to do it against Columbian. We cannot afford to relax.”

The lopsided win put a fitting finish to a grueling stretch for the Hotshots, who were led by Romeo Travis’ 32 points and 14 rebounds.

“This is our fourth game in 10 days so we have to finish strong. That is why ‘yung proper mindset namin for this game is very important. It’s a testament to our defensive mindset. ‘Yun naman lagi ang pinapaalala ko sa kanila” said Victolero.

Mark Barroca had 16 points while Paul Lee added 13 points for Magnolia, whose biggest lead came at 77-49.
