No hurt feelings for Don Trollano in first game vs ex-team RoS

DON Trollano wasn’t affected even a bit as he faced former team Rain or Shine for the first time since the one-on-one deal that brought him to TnT Katropa just before the start of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. The third-year wingman said trades are part of every players’ career and therefore, emotions should have no place in it. “OK naman. Wala namang hurt feelings,” said Trollano, who finished with six points and five rebounds in his first game opposite the Elasto Painters, who the Katropa dealt a 100-85 beating Saturday at the close of the...

Nash Racela frustrated with lack of foul calls as Josh Smith absorbs the hits

TNT coach Nash Racela expressed frustration with the no-calls as Joshua Smith absorbs the hard hits, noting it is a major concern as the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup enters the quarterfinal stage. “We played almost all of the teams and I realized that at this point, Joshua Smith is the biggest player in the tournament right now. I think at this point, it’s becoming — the way I see it — it’s becoming a weakness because he’s not getting the fouls and the calls he should be getting,” he said. For a guy as wide as...

Jayson Castro’s back to his old, aggressive self – and that’s good news for TNT

JAYSON Castro was the first to admit that he wasn’t himself in TNT’s past few games. Knowing how good an import Joshua Smith was, the Kapampangan guard said he willingly took a back seat in the offense and settled for a playmaker role with the KaTropa. “Magmula nung dumating si Josh, parang masyado ako nag-relax. Parang naging kampante ako na anytime, pwede namin siya puntahan,” he said. Through that stretch, Castro averaged an uncharacteristic 6.75 points for the KaTropa as he allowed Smith and teammate Terrence Romeo to run the show. But...

Joshua Smith eager to bounce back as TNT import braces for rematch vs Finals tormentor SMB

BETTER to lose now than later. Joshua Smith took in stride the 111-89 beating TnT Katropa suffered at the hands of Magnolia Pambansang Manok, stressing the loss is just a dent in the team’s bid for a quarterfinals berth in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. The burly import added the loss could have an adverse effect had it been in the playoffs. But this is just the elimination round yet, and the team remains in contention for a Top Two seeding heading into the quarterfinals with a 6-2 record. “You never really want to lose, but it’s rather now than...

Rainy weather, sleepy showing for TNT against Magnolia, rues coach Nash Racela

RAINY weather means bed weather for some. Unfortunately, that mood also stung TNT on Wednesday as coach Nash Racela didn’t fail to recognize the team’s listless showing in its 111-89 loss to Magnolia. “We just felt that the energy was down today, that’s why,” he said. “Actually the whole game, hindi maganda. Even when we were leading in the first half, hindi rin naman maganda ang tinatakbo namin.” The KaTropa held a 48-43 halftime lead on a 51-percent shooting from the field, but after the break, it was all downhill from there. TNT’s...

Jeremy Tyler out after falling short at TNT Katropa

JEREMY Tyler is the latest PBA Commissioner’s Cup import to be sent packing. Citing the import failed to meet the team’s expectations, the TNT Katropa finally let go of the former NBA player following their 110-100 loss to the Alaska Aces last Sunday. The Katropa are to face Blackwater Elite on Friday with a possible temporary import pending the availability of hulking 6-foot-10 Joshua Smith. The 26-year-old Smith, who guided the team to the finals of this same conference last year, is still under contract with Kyoto Hannaryz in...
