Unstoppable Stanley Pringle explodes for 50 points in GlobalPort rout of Columbian

TAKING the cue from the damp weather outside, Stanley Pringle made it rain inside Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

The Fil-Am slasher unleashed a jaw-dropping 50-point explosion in GlobalPort’s 133-115 victory that all but eliminated Columbian Dyip from the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoff race.

Pringle’s scorching offensive display saw him reach a new career-high in scoring on a 9-of-16 shooting from threes and an eye-popping 60-percent clip from the field, fittingly capped off by a slam with 50.9 seconds left to play.

His blazing performance not only rescued the Batang Pier from a late rally by the Dyip, 87-83 with 4:30 left in the third quarter, but also fanned their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals with an even 5-5 card.

The top pick overall of the 2014 rookie draft became the first local player to breach the 50-point mark in a PBA game since Asi Taulava scored 51 points in a 131-105 Talk ‘N Text win over Purefoods back in 2004.

“Tonight is Stanley’s show. It’s all about Stanley,” said coach Pido Jarencio of Pringle’s career-high in scoring which also stands as the most in the league this season and a new franchise record for GlobalPort.

The former University of Santo Tomas star and coach later kidded, “Parang ako lang nung college.”

Malcolm White also had his share of the spotlight with his 28 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Jonathan Grey came off the bench to contribute 16 points and four boards.

Sean Anthony was his usual pesky self with 12 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and five steals for GlobalPort, as new acquisitions Gabby Espinas and Paolo Taha both had four.

It was another blowout defeat for Columbian, which fell to 4-7 in the standings.

John Fields topped the Dyip with 26 points, 23 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks. The other starters were also at it for Columbian, but hardly got any support from the bench crew which only provided 12.

The scores:

GLOBALPORT 133 — Pringle 50, White 28, Grey 16, Anthony 12, Tautuaa 8, Guinto 5, Esoinas 4, Taha 4, Elorde 3, Javelona 3, Teng 0.

COLUMBIAN 115 — Fields 26, Camson 24, King 21, McCarthy 21, Khobuntin 11, Celda 5, Cahilig 3, Ababou 2, Tubid 2, Corpuz 0, Escoto 0.

Quarters: 25-29, 66-56, 96-88, 133-115.
